FSUs enrollment has increased rapidly in the past few years while at the same time average SAT scores for entering students have also improved. Fayetteville State University dates back to 1867, when seven black men founded the Howard School for the purpose of educating black children. We are proud of being the second-oldest state supported institution in North Carolina. The 2017-2018 academic year marks our 150th anniversary! Though we have come a long way from the single academic building of our founding, we honor our history with our traditions, such as Convocation and the Pinning Ceremony when new students officially become members of the Bronco family. We continue to build on the proud tradition of excellence at FSU as we strive to stay on the forefront of innovation. Our students conduct cutting-edge research in state-of-the-art facilities; highly regarded programs such as our Nursing program which is #2 Ranked on the Eastern corridor, or our Business program which is ranked within the top 100 in the nation! Our ability to bring great programs and partner them with a significantly affordable price tag while able to continue to offer new programs like our certificate in Cyber Security, and etc. seek to solve modern problems; and we prepare our students for success in a global economy through programs like Global Scholars, foreign language teaching assistants, and study abroad. Student to faculty ratio is 15:1 also, 33 bachelor's degrees; 8 masters degrees; 1 doctoral degree. These programs vary in areas of the arts and sciences, business and economics, and education. FSU is also a growing presence in the CIAA Conference. FSU has brought home a multitude of championships in football, basketball, golf, volleyball, tennis, bowling, and softball, with 12 different Division II offered. The universitys mens and womens athletic teams continue to uphold the Bronco tradition of excellence in NCAA Division II sports. Even more, FSU scholar-athletes proudly excel in academics as well. In many cases, when athletes complete their studies at FSU, they advance their careers into the ranks of professional sports. With a growing and diverse student body, a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs, an attractive campus with state-of-the-art facilities, and a nurturing faculty, Fayetteville State University offers all of the advantages of a large university while maintaining the atmosphere of a closely-knit liberal arts campus.
