COMMITTEES

• Community Engagement
  • Faith-Based/Community Outreach – Develop relationships and maintain contacts with faith-based, community and government leaders/organizations to garner support and participation in HBCU college fair and other educational programs.
  • HBCU Alumni/Sorority-Fraternity Relations – Promote college fair programs to alumni chapters, sororities, and fraternities. Seek their volunteer support.
• Finance - The Finance Committee is responsible for developing and reviewing fiscal procedures, a fundraising plan, and annual budget.
• Marketing – Manage Press, Internet, and Social Media (Facebook, Twitter) and any Fair communications for students, school administration/counselors, community groups and HBCUs. Develop brand and messaging strategies for organization.
• Fundraising – Plan fundraising events and recognition programs; grant writing, and sponsorship/donations solicitation.
• Operations and Technology – Support infrastructure and growth of organization. Manage HBCU college fairs and maintenance of information systems. Work with marketing and various committees, contributing toward development of communications on organization website.
• Programs - Planning and operations of events and activities consistent with the purpose of the organization, i.e.
  • NJ Rising Scholars Recognition Program/HBCU Rising Scholars Fund Scholarship
  • Educational programs and workshops.
  • Transfer Initiatives – Workshops for community college students and transfer fairs at community colleges
• Student Preparation - Contact high schools/counselors regarding student participation and preparation for college fairs, i.e. phone calls/emails/high school visits. Create college fair prep materials.

Day of Fairs Positions

• Host/Guide - Serve as a guide, assisting with movement of students throughout the fair and workshops, maintaining orderliness and safety.
• HBCU Rep Assistant – Attend college fair and support admissions professionals. Assist HBCU reps at their table, i.e. handing out materials. Speak to students/parents about HBCU under direction of HBCU Rep.
• Motivational Speaker – Inspire and encourage students to seek higher education in student forum.
• NJ Rising Scholars - Assist with registration, scanning and hosting duties at recognition ceremony for outstanding seniors (parents) interested in attending an HBCU.
• Registration/Student Services - Serve as a registration host at a college fair for students, parents/guardians; use scanner to scan admittance passes. Assist with online registration on PCs and mobile phones; print or copy student transcripts and/or test scores.
• Volunteer Team Assistant - Liaison working with Volunteer Coordinator to assist in scheduling and training of fair location volunteers.
• Workshop Leader/Panelist - Address students in a workshop about the benefits of attending HBCUs, Financial Aid, STEM, Application Process, Scholarships or other college-readiness topic.
