Shelton State Community College is a public open-admission comprehensive community college whose primary purpose is to provide accessible postsecondary education, training and community educational opportunities. Shelton State Community College offers service at two approved campuses, the Martin Campus and the C.A. Fredd Campus, and is designated as a Historically Black College and University (HBCU). The College is home to the West Alabama Center for Workforce Development as well as the Shelton State Adult Education/Career Readiness Program and enjoys the distinction of being the Alabama Community College of the Fine Arts.
